Microsoft expected to release Silverlight 2 next week

It sounds like Monday October 13 is the day that Microsoft will announce that Silverlight 2 is done.

(Update: I originally said "Silverlight 2.0 in this post. But I've heard from a couple of Softies they are calling the next version plain old 2.)

Scott Guthrie, Corporate Vice President of the .NET Developer Division is slated to  make "a significant announcement related to Microsoft Silverlight" on October 13 at 9 a.m. PT, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft released the near-final test build of Silverlight 2  for both Windows and Mac OS X clients at the very end of September.

Silverlight 2, unlike the 1.0 version of Microsoft's competitor to Adobe Flash, includes a cross-platform, cross-browser version of the .Net Framework.

Silverlight enables  developers to write applications using any .Net language, including JavaScript, IronPython and IronRuby. Silverlight 2 also features a Windows-Presentation-Foundation-based UI framework for building rich Web apps, and out-of-the-box support for REST, WS*/SOAP, POX, RSS, and standard HTTP services.

    • 13 is just a number

That is a lame reason not to do something.
Think you might be able to come up with a better one?

Like actually having some points why downloading the latest release of silverlight will be a bad idea? You know aside from the number 13 and your superstitions?

    • Wow I never thought of that...

Let's see... it is also a monday. Can't release anything on the start of the working week! My folks told me it's bad karma or some crap like that.

Oh and it is released by a company that some other linux geek told me practiced satanic rituals. Another reason to not download.</sarcasm>

there is no room for god or superstition in the computer world

    • I think...

you meant to hit "reply to message".

In reply to your strange reply to a strange post - sure there is. Google "Microsoft Office 13".

Computers are made by people, for people. So whatever beliefs or traditions humans have are instilled into what they create.

I mean, if you can build spiritual beliefs from Maths (numerology) I hardly see how computers would be "supernature free".

  • Finally a cheap and easy Adobe killer..

The expression design suite is probably half the price of Adobe but it is much more powerful and can be used on the web or the desktop and makes the design side of things not only designer friendly but coding friendly as well.

  • Poor s/w

I have never gotten SilverLight to work correctly on my 3 different XP pro boxes.

In order to view the olympic feeds I had
to uninstall it to get the non-silverlight
    feed.

THe symptom is that it just sits "buffering. . ."

  • RE: Microsoft expected to release Silverlight 2.0 next week

The real question that should be asked is Will the new version work with the older microprocessors that the majority of us are still using.

I am using an AMD Athlon 32bit and everthing within the specks for silverlight 1 but it will not load or run
