Looks like former NetDocs leader Brian MacDonald isn't the only former Softie to come back to the fold.

Former Platform Architect Pat Helland -- who spent the past couple of years over at Amazon.com helping the company with its service-oriented-architecture (SOA) strategy -- quietly rejoined Microsoft in early March.

On May 14, Helland blogged about his return to Microsoft, where he will be part of the company's Developer Division.

"I am working in the Developer Division and have not quite settled on which technology project will be my new home but I am determined that I will be taking an active role in driving forward new products. While you will see some of me in public (and on my blog), I will concentrate on building products," blogged Helland.

Before he left for Amazon.com, Helland was working on big-picture strategy at Microsoft. He was instrumental in helping Microsoft build and ship Microsoft Transaction Server/COM+.
