Samsung denies it will take over HP's Windows PC business

Summary: Samsung officials are denying rumors that Samsung plans to take over HP's PC business. This comes as HP, the No. 1 vendor of Windows PCs, contemplates selling its PC business.

Well, I guess that settles that.

In a short and sweet post to the official Samsung Global Electronics "Samsung Tomorrow" blog on August 24, unnamed Samsung officials said:

"The recent rumors that Samsung Electronics will be taking over Hewlett-Packard Co.'s personal computer business are not true.

"We hope this clarifies any confusion that may have occurred."

In March, rumors circulated that HP was about to sell its notebook business to Samsung.

HP officials have attempted to clarify their statements from last week by making it clear that HP has not yet decided (completely) to spin off its Personal Services Group business. Instead, they say, they are considering whether to sell it, spin it off as a standalone entity or keep it.

HP is the largest vendor of Windows PCs, outpacing Dell, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and Toshiba.

Samsung officials did not address in the above-mentioned post rumors that Samsung may be among those potentially interested in licensing HP's WebOS operating system.

    Google will buy HP, they want to become Apple. Haven't you noticed yet? they copy everthing.. Facebook=Google+, Groupon=Google Offers, Android=Iphone, Google TV=Apple TV...... I could go on and on...

      @Hasam1991 only difference is that Google is not fascist company and they give freedom to people opposite of being trapped in Apple ecosystem which empties your pockets. I'm using a lot of Google services for few years now and never ever paid for any single one of them ... I love Google

        @AdnanPirota - So basically your complaint isn't so much with the so called "closed Ecosystem", but with companies that charge for their products. You must be a treat to watch when you go shopping at Wal-Mart and stuff your pockets with anything that will fit in them.

        There is no such thing as free beer. You have paid in ways other than money. Apple or HP or Dell show you exactly what you have to pay with for the goods they deliver: money.

  • Just when you thought it was safe to buy an Itanium

    <ul><i>[HP] are considering whether to sell it, spin it off as a standalone entity or keep it.</i></ul><p>Meanwhile, large account customers are considering whether to place orders now with Dell, wait 90 days to see if HP can get its act together, or ask IBM if they will do hardware maintenance on Lenovo PCs.

  • Most likely...?

    If you ask me, the most likely case is HP may not sell it after all. The decision was made too quikly from everything we have seen.

    Once the HP personal systems are separated, that business is still a Fortune 60 company. I don't know many companies who could absorb such a large beast. The HP business will probably be spun off and try to stand on its own.
