47 Words Per Minute on the iPad with iTextSpeed

Summary: I managed to type 47 WPM on the iPad--what about you?

Special Report: Apple iPad

I'm working on my first impressions of the iPad, but in the interim I figured I'd treat the world to a quick sample of how fast I can type on the iPad. I normally clock in at around 97 WPM on a standard keyboard, and previously did 54 WPM on the iPhone, so I was curious to see how fast I could touch type on the iPad.

To my surprise, without any practice I managed about 47 words per minute pretty consistently (according to the iPhone version of iTextSpeed running on the iPad). I should also mention that typing in the Notes app seems to be even faster for me, probably because I'm not concentrating on making sure I type the correct word each time.

    • Not just you

      @cornpie

Your not alone. And for me, it is not as though I could even go in a mad fit to see one in a shop, since this is only the US launch of the product.

    • Nope. Sure beats seeing the word Microsoft everwhere.

Barring Apple computers which is only sold in
select stores, I don't have a choice but to pay
for Microsoft Windows - there is not a choice to
choose another OS or even to buy the PC without
Microsoft Windows. That is a monopoly which I do
not support. As a result Microsoft does not need
to have their name plastered over all tech sites,
they don't need to advertise, or do anything
because people do not have a choice.

  • Too bad it does not have Swype

as is supplied with Samsung phones.

You would likely increase your words per minute considerably
