Apple says black is the new white (iPhone 4)

By | July 23, 2010, 5:39pm PDT

Summary: With manufacturing issues still occurring, Apple delays the white iPhone 4 yet again

If you’ve been holding out for a white iPhone 4, I’m sad to report that your wait just got even longer.

According to a statement by Apple, the white models are still suffering from manufacturing challenges, and will not be available until later this year:

“White models of Apple’s new iPhone 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected …”

I’m not sure what type of challenges Apple is facing, but the latest delay is causing people like Kevin Tofel to speculate that perhaps this time Apple is going to take advantage of the delay and fix the antenna, too.

My guess is that it’s just some weird process issue that they’re having making the casing white. If Apple was to suddenly release a white version with a fixed antenna, they’d have to do a lot more than offer up a free case to calm down the masses.

It’s currently unknown when a white iPhone 4 will finally ship. So, if you’ve been holding out, you might as well put your order in for a black iPhone 4, since at this stage it’s definitely going to be way after September before the white ones show up.

Good day to confirm this comment I would appreciate T h e b e s t o f Z D N e t d e l i v e r e d your website very nice to everyone Yes, Oracle is the only one with shared-disk architecture, but that is there advantage. It means you can add or remove nodes and the database lives on. In a shared nothing architecture, if you lose a node, you lose the system. I'm sure Oracle appreciates EMC highlighting their advantage.I also desire to signal in your RSS feeds. Thank you as soon as once again and maintain up the great operate Awesome post! In the end, a responsible buyer will put it in a "bumper/case" to protect it (not to fix the issue with reception). The color of the "skin" is not going to matter.

The part that matters is that IT WORKS and is USABLE. Spending time talking about the color of the shell is just plain stupid. Is like the people who go to a dealer and fall in love with a car because of the color .... but ignore that the model is the most unreliable in the market.

@wackoae Well yeah, at the end of the day, the device itself is what matters, but then again, when you do get a car, you pick a model but you don't ask the dealer to pick the color for you. You must have a preference. And quite frankly, if i'm paying that much money for a phone, then the color does become a requirement, for the price it's selling of course i'm going to become picky over the color, i would want the white one if i was promised an availability in that color.
Apple is starting to make major mistakes, you dont release a device and then decide it doesnt work. why would they give a release date if they're product was unfinished. you'd think everything would be done for the release date.
I'm personally am waiting for the white model, my 3g was white and so will my iphone 4.

and other Apple marketing ploys...

Another setback once again for Apple it will be interesting to see what's next in the news regarding iPhone issues (antenna, manufacturing) and their steps to refund cases won?t make up for the iPhone 4's lack of function over form.

It's a shame to see so many issues with the iPhone 4 after so many people waited for it's release. What's more of a shame is that it seems Apple knew about some of these issues already, such as the problem with reception.

But Apple have created such a loyal following that people may just put up with what issues there are for the sake of owning the latest Apple product.
Personally, I'd be happier with an older iPhone - at least then the issues are all ironed out.

However, it's also interesting to see how much excitement new technologies can bring. New technology and innovation is important for new business, illustrated by entrepreneurship grants and new business competitions like http://www.ukesnc.com.

Guess it's not all bad!
