CoPilot Live launches next generation iOS clients with launch special pricing

By | July 12, 2011, 6:32am PDT

Summary: The dedicated personal navigation device is almost a thing of the past and GPS navigation clients for mobile operating systems keep getting better and better. CoPilot launched their latest iOS and Android clients over the last week so check them out.

It has been a couple of years since I last wrote about CoPilot’s GPS navigation solution for mobile devices, but they have been improving their software and just launched their latest Apple iOS solutions.

As stated in the press release, here are some of the new features:

  • Alternate Routes: CoPilot Live will help you find the best way to any destination with a choice of up to three routes, displaying journey time and mileage for each. If you have our ActiveTraffic™ service enabled, it will also calculate the journey time based on real-time traffic speeds for each route.
  • Drag Routing: Fine-tuning your route is easy with CoPilot Live. Simply drag the route or a destination flag to a preferred street you wish to take or location to navigate to.
  • An Easy to Use, Intuitive User Interface: With our redesigned user interface all the navigation and driving features you need are right at your fingertips, when you need them.
  • Speed Limit Alerts: CoPilot Live will display the speed limit on major roads and, should you accidentally exceed it, warn you with on-screen and audible alerts.
  • Tap, Discover and Go: Tap anywhere on the map to navigate there or discover useful location-specific information about that place.
  • Wikipedia: CoPilot Live lets you access community content easily with access to Wikipedia and Bing Local Search directly within the app.
  • Bing™ Local Search: Search the Internet for nearby businesses and places to navigate to.
  • New Walking Mode: CoPilot Live’s new walking mode displays your location on the map with an easy to follow pulsing red dot. A dedicated walking user interface and menus include an on-screen compass and the ability to display Points of Interest and Wikipedia locations on the map. Turn-by-turn walking directions and an easy to follow dashed straight line to your destination are calculated automatically.
  • Social Media Integration: Share your status and journey details with your friends using Twitter and Facebook

If you are looking for an excellent GPS navigation solution that supports offline maps then you should consider CoPilot Live for your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad soon since they are offering serious launch deals for a week. The CoPilot Live Premium USA version is just $9.99 (regularly $24.99) and the one for the iPad, CoPilot Live Premium HD USA, is just $14.99 (regularly $29.99). I have been thinking about getting a car mount for my iPad and with CoPilot Live I could have an awesome in-car navigation solution so I may just give that a try soon. I also need a good GPS navigation solution for my 17-year old daughter and may test out her latest generation iPod touch to see how it works without a GPS receiver.

Keep in mind that their ActiveTraffic service is an in-app add-on available for $9.99 for 12 months and their Live Fuel Prices service is another $4.99 for 12 month subscription service. However, if you were buying these solutions a couple of years ago at $99+ then this is still a heck of a deal even with these add-on optional subscription services.

They also just recently launched updated Android clients so if you have an Android device you may want to check them out too.

I bought this software in 1997 (yes, I typed that correctly) and they were the best bar none. Then they were bought out by some other company and ended up with inferior maps. If they would get their focus back on the maps, they could be a great as they once were...
Did you try this? Android Market reviews are very mixed. It sounds like it might be worth waiting to see if this matures.
I still use this alk software since it first opened on the web and still use it on my windows phone. It kind of sad how they keep using iphone. I am thinking giving up on this Alk gps has there are so many better than this and some offer free freeway alerts now compare alk charging for that feature give me a break! it should be free. Alk does not even have an app for windows phone 7 which is a joke they should have one at least due to wp7 app market keeps growing every day and heard it already close to 50,000 aps so far and still growing. it already surpassed blackberry which only has 8,000 aps hahahhaha
I have used this product on a Windows and Android device. the reason I keep coming back is the product. The reason I kick myself every time I do is the horrendous customer service.
