Deal alert: Get $100 off the 16GB HP TouchPad from 5-7 August

Deal alert: Get $100 off the 16GB HP TouchPad from 5-7 August

Summary: HP will be holding a special fire sale on the 16GB TouchPad webOS device this weekend so get those credit cards out and ready.

SHARE:

I played with a webOS-powered HP TouchPad at Best Buy for a while and was not too impressed with it. HP has now released a major update for it and from what I hear it is what they should have launched it with. I picked up one through a Twitter friend, Amanda from Mobile Unwrapped, who bought a new 16GB one on Craigslist for just $325 and at that price I couldn't pass it up. Well, it turns out if you are interested in a deal on the 16GB model you can pick one up for just $399.99, visit the HP promo page, as detailed over at PreCentral.net.

A price of $399.99 is what HP and others need to consider to compete with the iPad and get people at least to consider their device and give it a try. HP officially knocked the launch price down $50 this week and this 3-day weekend special knocks it down another $50. I also understand there is a Staples $100 tablet offer floating around where you could get $100 off the 16GB or 32GB model. Anyone planning to pick up a TouchPad now at these lowered prices? Stay tuned for my thoughts on the TouchPad next week.

UPDATE: You can also pick up a new 16GB HP TouchPad for $379.99 plus $5 shipping at Woot.com today, Friday, 5 August. Seems HP is making a major push to get these into people's hands now that the firmware update is available.

Now that is a good deal. I am so confused, whether I should get AT&T model or get this for $400. AT&T model has better specs, if I am not wrong. But having a data plan is redundant. Probably I would go for this.

    • James over clocked his to faster than AT&T one

@Rama.NET Other than the cellular data radio, I don't think there are other spec differences. I understand the processor is the same, just clocked differently. James over clocked his and it seems to run fine at 1.7 or 2 GHz or something like that.

Thank you very much. I found even cheaper deal at local BestBuy Mobile, which opened today and I got it for $250.00 :D

@Rama.NET If I ever get another tablet, it'll have a 3G/4g/etc connection. If you have a tethering plan, you might get away without it, but it's still a bit of a hassle.

Granted, most of this is probably coming from my Comcast home internet being down yet again.

Just another pretend iPad wannabe. I'll stick with an Apple iPad. Unbelievable software availability, great choices and availability from the publishing industry, cloud based file access, easy integration, etc. Competition is good, it's also tough. Apple is making the competition look lame.

@gtdworak Sorry. I have both an iPad and Touchpad so I'm not coming out of left field. The iPad has apps. Yes, but who needs thousands apps that are mostly worthless? Most folks need 10-20 really good ones. Lack of Flash on the iPad is huge. Need to close an app? Flip the card on a Touchpad. iPad? Hit the button once (sometimes twice), hold one of the icons until they all wiggle, find the one you want to get rid of, touch the icon and then hit the button again. Sorry, the iPad interface is lame. Want to customize to your liking? Touchpad - install Preware and have at it. iPad - throw away your warranty and jailbreak it. Nice. Here's a recent article that pretty much explains it all: http://mobileunwrapped.com/2011/08/the-hp-touchpad-thoughts-on-the-new-generation-of-tablets/

@Rama.net you should get the 16gig with 100 off. Thats a steal. Plus they have the same processor, meaning you can overclock the 16 gig to the 1.5ghz to match the ATT model

@gtdworak I own an iPad2 and a Touchpad and I find the touchpad to be a better experience. Multitasking, notifications, gestures, global search and quick actions (just type), multitask-copy-pasteing, flash (better browser experience), touch to share (if you have a veer), easier to hold, better speakers, better sound processing, home-brew community <-- all of these trump the iPad. The only thing it needs is more apps. btw, it has box.net for cloud storage atm. So I wouldn't necessarily call it a wannabe.

  • Staples coupon Expired

Sorry, it looks like that deal expired on July 30th. It would have been nice to stack the deals though.
