First impressions of the Kindle DX Graphite

By | July 8, 2010, 11:00am PDT

Summary: The new, higher contrast Kindle DX Graphite is in the hands of Lisa Gade at Mobile Tech Review and does indeed show deeper blacks and better contrast. Check out more first impressions and stay tuned for her full review.

It was just last week that Rachel wrote about Amazon announcing the new Kindle DX with a lower price and reportedly better display. My friend and avid ebook reader, Lisa Gade, already has one in her hands and posted a first impressions look at the new Kindle DX. She will be posting a full review and video walk through soon as well. As you can see in the post Mobile Tech Review took some macro shots of the Kindle DX Graphite display and compared it to some other ebook readers. The contrast is better than the current Kindle DX and the blacks are deeper, but it appears the screen still isn’t the same as a printed book.

Lisa states it probably isn’t worth the upgrade if you already own a Kindle DX, but it is a nice first large screen ebook reader device. I enjoy reading on my Nook and iPad and have no need for a large screen dedicated ebook reader, but at least there is enough of a difference between this and the iPad now that avid readers may want to consider taking a look at it.

UPDATE: You can check out the Mobile Tech Review video walk-through of the Kindle DX Graphite below.
