Free iPhone 4 bumper arriving earlier than promised

By | July 28, 2010, 1:08pm PDT

Summary: Apple promised 3-5 weeks, but bumpers are arriving less than two weeks after placing an order.

I previously reported that you could order a free iPhone 4 bumper but that it was a 3-5 week shipping wait. Shortly after there were rumors that the cases would arrive sooner. Now I can officially confirm that the bumpers are indeed shipping sooner.

Earlier this week I received notice that the bumper I ordered on July 23 would arrive by August 2nd. That’s a far cry from the 3-5 weeks originally promised.

The latest shipping schedule makes me wonder if Apple was just setting expectations on the longer delivery time, so as to reduce the chances of another PR nightmare. Regardless, I’m happy that mine is on the way (in Chicago as of this writing).

I’ll be sure to report back on how the bumper improves my call drop ratio. Currently I drop a call or two a day, and that’s with me making extra sure I’m not “death gripping” my iPhone 4.

Did your bumper arrive yet or did you receive notice of it being shipped?

A call a day?

Is this just the iPhone or the US in general? I've yet to have a call drop in 7 years unless someone went into a tunnel. Do people really think that's acceptable? Sounds like the providers didn't invest in enough towers or the iPhone has some other problems.

Apples steps to refund cases won?t make up for the iPhone 4's lack of function over form.

It's a shame to see so many issues with the iPhone 4 after so many people waited for it's release. What's more of a shame is that it seems Apple knew about some of these issues already, such as the problem with reception.

But Apple have created such a loyal following that people may just put up with what issues there are for the sake of owning the latest Apple product.
Personally, I'd be happier with an older iPhone - at least then the issues are all ironed out.

However, it's also interesting to see how much excitement new technologies can bring. New technology and innovation is important for new business, illustrated by entrepreneurship grants and new business competitions like http://www.ukesnc.com.

Guess it's not all bad!
