The Mobile Gadgeteer

Freshen up your workspace with a USB Port Scent from PartyLite

By | November 6, 2011, 5:42pm PST

Summary: I was a bit worried that the scent would be overbearing and stink up my office, but it is not this way at all.

Does your friend or family member spend a lot of time behind a computer screen? Are candles prohibited at your friends’ workplace (highly likely this is the case)? Then I think you should consider the PartyLite Scent 4Me USB Port Diffuser accessory.

Matt Miller, my fellow ZDNet Mobile Gadgeteer writer, has a wife, Dayna, who is a PartyLite consultant and she sent along one of these Scent 4Me USB diffusers along with an extra scent to test out. Matt told me about how one of these has provided his small office with a nice scent rather than one smelling from wet coats and lunches at the desk, so I had to give it a shot. After trying one out for a few weeks I have to agree it does improve the office scent.

The diffuser plugs into a USB port that then powers the delivery system for the scents. The scents are a solid gel material and unlike some other products, the gel material does not evaporate or leak onto your desk. In addition, the diffuser sports an indicator light, which was definitely an attention getter when people walked into my office. The indicator light is in the center and lights up the scent pack and glows the color of the scent since each scent fragrance is a different color. There are a few different fragrances and colors to choose from, including:

  • Cinnamon & Bayberry (Red)
  • Ginger Pumpkin (Orange)
  • Mulberry (Maroon/Burgundy)
  • Pure Vanilla Creme (White)
  • Spruce in the Snow (Green)

I was a bit worried that the scent would be overbearing and “stink” up my office, but it is not this way at all. The diffuser provides just the right amount of energy to spread the scent around a small area, making my working environment a pleasant smelling place. I do have to say that the Pure Vanilla Creme initially overwhelmed me, but I think it’s because I was using my 11″ MacBook Air and practically sitting on top of the USB port diffuser. Later, when I hooked my laptop to my monitor, the scent was just the right strength and definitely freshened up my climate controlled office.

You can pick up a set that includes the USB port diffuser unit and a 2-pack fragrance set for $20. You can also get a 2-pack refill for $10.

FYI, if you spend lots of time in your car you can also find their black S-Pod Travel Unit that has very high ratings and attaches to your car vents or even hangs in a gym locker.

Are you selling your blog space for advertising or something?

The Callet, The Partylite USB? What next, Alternative lifestyle cookbooks?

Not messing with you but this just seems like there's been a really slow news day for you!
Can I have one that is 'old socks?'

This is not news, this is a promotion for your friend Matt, his wife, as you mention, sells the silly things. This doesn't look any better than if he'd put his own name to it. The trouble is that when you put out fluff like this you may not be taken seriously when you write about something that actually matters.
Ah, lighten up a little....
I've never heard of either these things or the company, and probably never would have but for the "fluff" article here. I have a full-time home office (2-people, 2 computers) and a more elaborate personal setup in my bedroom, as well as a dog & 2 cats. I think I might be able to benefit from something like this....
Although, having said that, I wouldn't like to suddenly see a flood of "info-blog-posts" about stuff that you normally see everywhere else.
Ah - yet another way to get nasty, synthetic petroleum based agent into the air around us. Do yourself a favor - get a diffuser and use pure essential oils. Did you know Eucalyptus has been shown in studies to kill certain airborne viruses? Lemon essential oil can improve data entry accuracy? We're subjected to enough synthetic crap in our environment already. This is just too much.
