HTC Thunderbolt coming March 4th or delayed again?

HTC Thunderbolt coming March 4th or delayed again?

Summary: All signs are pointing to an imminent release this time around

SHARE:

The HTC Thunderbolt is one of the most anticipated mobile phones to hit Verizon. The main reason is that it will be the first phone to ship on Verizon's new LTE network. What this means is blazing fast speeds. It could also be the first phone to do simultaneous voice and data on Verizon's network, something that the company is internally not promoting, and even the iPhone 4 on Verizon can't deliver.

The Thunderbolt also packs a punch, features-wise, sporting Android 2.2 with HTC Sense, a 4.3" WVGA TFT capacitive touch screen, 8MP camera, 1.3MP front facing camera, GPS, dual mics with noise cancellation, and more. For a full rundown you can check out the official specs page.

So, what's the hold up on releasing this revolutionary phone? The latest rumors blame short battery life. This one does sound likely given that the Thunderbolt comes with a 1400 mAH one. Could it be that Verizon's LTE network is a massive battery drain? I'm sure doing a hand-off between LTE and Verizon's 3G network could be a battery drain, too.

My guess is that the Thunderbolt is days away from release now, though. According to GottaBeMobile, Verizon recently pulled its official commercial for the Thunderbolt from YouTube. And AndroidCommunity is reporting that it briefly showed up on HTC's online store for $700, but has since been removed. Best Buy had previously listed the Thunderbolt at $249, but that has also since disappeared. And now there's another post circulating showing a release date of March 10th, though it's now being discarded by many tech sites.

If you can't wait to get your hands on one, you can sign-up to be notified when it's available and also check out the review of it from WIREFLY below.

Verizon is definitely getting some serious phones and as a result, serious attention these days. First it managed to release the iPhone 4, then the XOOM (a tablet, but still noteworthy) and now the Thunderbolt. There's no doubt that the U.S. market now has plenty of choices on the Verizon network.

  • Screen lacks quality: twice less details than iPhone 4, no IPS, no layers..

.. glued together. So three dimensions inferior screen here.

Camera is not backslide illuminated, so even with higher megapixels it will be worse than of iPhone 4.

And LTE will work like on 1% of USA territory -- not as reliable connection, but in test regime. And even there most of the time people are in the field with Wi-Fi, which is faster and free of charge.

@denisrs The HTC EVO, Incredible, Desire HD, and Inspire all have the same 8MP BACKSIDE-ILLUMINATED image sensor made by Omnivision. The 5MP version is in the iPhone 4.

With Multitasking and LTE, I don't think 1400 mAH would hold for great periods. My EVO 4G drains battery by 50% quickly even if I am just reading tweets. OTOH, I don't have that issue on iPhone 4 or Samsung Focus. I also have HD7, and thunderbolt and HD7 share similar specs for the screen. I am telling you iPhone 4 and Focus have great screen and Super LCD can't hold water in front of them. HTC cameras are the lousiest ones, the camera on EVO 4G is 8MP and the picture quality on that can't be anytime as good as iPhone 4 and Focus and those two are just 5MP. Like denisrs mentioned LTE is not proven yet, and you don't know its reliability, forget about LTE, even the HSPA+ or the so called 4G are still not completely available throughout the nation, so I don't think this would be super hit phone unless Verizon offers it as BOGO or Buy One and Get Five like US Cellular is doing.

@Rama.NET The 8MP sensor in HTC's phone is made by Omnivision. It is essentially an 8MP version of what you see in the iPhone 4. The picture quality is similar, though the iPhone's tap-to-focus blow's the HTC's tap-to-focus camera app out of the water.
LTE Isn't proven? Engadget got speeds of up to 33mbps at fucking CES.
No fucking shit it isn't available nationwide! That's why they call it NEW!

I just got my money back from best buy and gave back the $50 gift card. I thought it was a good deal along with the free buy back program they offered but that offer is expired and now they want $70 for the 50% buy back. I'm going to wait for either the Bionic or Iphone 5

HTC EVO 4G and HTC Droid Incredible and the Droid X are pretty awesome phones but what makes them great are the applications you use. Android operating system, which is one of the most popular platforms used in cellphones, tablets and other mobile devices. and HTC have latest version to use.

I've been lied to on at least 4 occasions as to my HTC Thunderbolt. I did the prebuy the day it was announced and have been back to the store 4 times. On the 24th I went to the store and I got "we are sorry it has been delayed to the 28th" These are the words directly from the Verizon rep that was there at the store on that day. I am tired of promises not kept, you have my $50.00 and now I don't even get the buy back program. I think this was all masterfully concocted by Verizon and HTC to salvage the sale of the obsolete iPhone.

      @JWBCOMPANY
The buy back program is a scam. A year from now, the phone will probably sell for $350-$575 on ebay. Best Buy'll probably just give $250.

  • RE: HTC Thunderbolt coming March 4th or delayed again?

When I called BestBuy yesterday to verify their Sunday circular ad for Thunderbolt at $299 they told me the Verizon rep just told them the announcement is delayed till March 17th:( At $300 I am inclined to wait till prices drop after what is turning out to be a lackluster introduction!
