iOS remote controlled Truck--just what every kid and adult needs

Summary: The AppSpeed Monster Truck is a unique remote control vehicle that allows you to control it wirelessly from your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad, either by touch or gyroscope

I've been in mobile for more than 15 years, and loving remote control cars even longer than that. For these reasons, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on the AppSpeed Monster Truck. The AppSpeed Monster Truck is a unique remote control vehicle that allows you to control it wirelessly from your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad.

The kit itself comes with everything you need to get it up and running, except for the iOS device. There's an RF Transmitter, which attaches to the dock connector of your device, a USB to 3.5 mm charging cable, and a quick battery charger, which uses 3xAAA batteries.

To get your AppSpeed Monster Truck up and running, you first download the app. Once it's downloaded you connect the RF transmitter, power on your truck, and then launch the app. From there you can control your truck either by Gravity Sensor mode or Touch Sensor. Gravity Sensor mode uses the iOS device's gyroscope and lets you move your iOS device forwards, backwards, and even steer it like a steering wheel. Touch Sensor mode does as its name implies and allows you to control the movement of the truck by touching arrows or even sliding elements on the screen of your device.

If you get tired of controlling the AppSpeed Monster Truck yourself, you can use one of three preset stations to automatically ZigZag, Spin or Dance your truck to music.

I can't say enough good things about the AppSpeed. It's fast, works both indoors and out, and goes over just about anything I throw at it, even though it's a tiny little truck.

The AppSpeed Monster Truck is a must-have in my book and can be purchased at Amazon for $69.90.

    • I was thinking the same thing ....

      @DJK2 Then I read iOS .... meaning it could be an iPod Touch or an iPad.

      Still .... not for small kids.

      @DJK2 Let's make a WILD guess: you're an american??

      My daughter runs around with my phone often. She plays games and stuff like that. She's having great fun. No she's not having her own phone, but borrowing mine for fun, why not?

      If I had that app and the truck, I would let her play.... She's soon to be 5.

      @DJK2 I must have missed the part where Joel called you a kid. Hmmm, I just reread the article and I'm STILL not seeing it. Secondly the truck is controlled by an iOS device meaning it could be controlled by an iPhone, an iPad, or an iPod Touch so the controlling iOS device does not have to be an iPhone. In the context of playing a game or in this case using the iOS device as a controller for a remote controlled toy why would a kid NOT be walking around with an iOS device?

      @DJK2 I'm not sure why second kids shouldn't have smartphones, but what about first kids? Or third, fourth and fifth kids? Step-kids? Grandkids?

      @Einstein_WL Yeah, now THAT is a cool product. I've been lusting after that thing for a while now. Perhaps the wife will let me treat myself for Christmas. At the very least, I might be able to get this little truck. :)

      Looks like fun!
