iPhone how to: Take screenshots on your 2.0 iPhone

Summary: iPhone how to: Take screenshots on your 2.0 iPhoneI have been playing around with my upgraded original iPhone since last Thursday and after recently syncing my iPhone I saw that there were a few screen captures showing up in iPhoto. I was a bit confused about how they got there and rechecked my iPhone to see if I had downloaded an application that took screenshots. However, there was nothing there on my iPhone. After a bit more research, I read in the ZDNet iPhone 3G review that Apple added this functionality right into the 2.0 software update.

After a bit more research, I read in the ZDNet iPhone 3G review that Apple added this functionality right into the 2.0 software update.

When you are on a screen that you want to capture, you simply press and hold the Home button and then press the the power/sleep button. Your screenshot will then appear in your photo gallery on your iPhone where you can send it or sync it as you desire. I plan to use this functionality when writing software reviews and am pleased it was included in the update. I now need to test it out while playing games and using applications where pressing in on the Home button may affect the program.

thanks for sharing this tip. Worked like a charm. Not sure how it works in action games. Very quickly in Bejeweled2 I was able to snap the next set of jewels coming down and the points showing. The game did not quit when I snapped, so it'll be cool to try it with something with more action.

Very slick feature! Now if someone can just get SwirlyMMS on this phone we'll be happy.

OH!! I am using an original iphone because AT&T does not have a GOPHONE 3G.

    Hi Matt,

I wonder if it is possible to take screen shots with iPod touch. Maybe there will be a hack, since capability probably build in.

Cool... this may tie into something we have been scratching our heads about.

We are trying to figure out a way to have the screen of our laptop reflect the screen of our iPhone. For a concrete example, as we are going through photos on our iPhone, we want our laptop screen be an exact replica of the iPhone screen (showing us going through photos).

I guess another way to describe our need is: being able to display what we are doing on an iPhone - but allowing the actions to be seen on a larger screen for others to see.

Ideally, there would be a way to make this happen wirelessly - perhaps through wifi or bluetooth. Although, we would also be open to a wired solution.

Please let me know if there is any technology currently in existence that makes this possible. If not, please let me know your thoughts on how this could be made possible.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help us out - it is truly appreciated.

Wow. Seems like a lot of people have found out about this. Saw this
funky trick on this website if you're feeling mischievous:

    http://cogito.faii.net/iphone-screenshots-tutorial/

according to the author, once taking an image of a friend's
homepage on his iphone, hand the iphone back to him. he'll think
it's hung or something like that. one of those cheap thrills.
