Major SugarSync for iOS update adds desktop-like features

By | March 28, 2011, 8:16am PDT

Summary: SugarSync is one of the best cloud storage solutions, especially if you are someone who uses multiple computers and mobile devices.

I have tried several online backup and sync solutions in the past, but have decided to go with SugarSync as my primary service for a couple of reasons. They offer the most mobile device clients (iOS, Android, Symbian, BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile) and a whopping 5GB of storage for FREE. Today, SugarSync released a major update for iOS devices that includes new features and improvements in existing features.

The new features of SugarSync provide the following:

  • Send large files from your device: The new app lets you generate SugarSync links, which enable you to send files without bulky attachments from within the mobile app. You can also easily copy those links and send via any external program (email, Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
  • Sharing multiple files and folders at once: Just like on your computer, SugarSync’s iOS app now lets you select as many files/folders as you want all at once, so you can share more, quicker.
  • Integration with your contacts: SugarSync’s new app now integrates with your contact list on your phone or iPad for quicker, easier sharing via your native email client.
  • Manage your files/folders on the go: You can now organize, move and delete your folders from the app, giving you the ability to manage files and folders on the go. It’s like a remote control for you computers.
  • Streaming music as you multi-task: You can now stream music to your iOS device through SugarSync while you do other things on your iOS device.

They have improved the performance and stability of the app, although I never saw issues with this myself before.

Note that SugarSync is integrated into the leading Office and document handling apps too, including Quickoffice (my personal favorite Office suite), Documents To Go, GoodReader, and ReaddleDocs.

The free SugarSync for iOS app is available now and can be downloaded online at www.sugarsync.com/downloads/index.html#mobile or in the iTunes App Store. SugarSync offers a free 5GB version of their full service, with 30 GB plans starting from $4.99/month.

SUgarsync is great - and now 5.5GB of free online storage
bakgwei 6th May 2011
Sugarsync was great before, but with the new Android (and Iphone) app it has gotten even better. I personally have been using Sugarsync for a long time now and am more than happy. Not only are they cheaper than most of its competitors, they also offer by far the best product in the market today.

Also, if you use the following link to sign up for Sugarsync, you now get 5.5 GB of free online storage forever: https://www.sugarsync.com/referral?rf=ejjfpyq3n6nmz
...but have they fixed the pervasive file duplication issues?
I've given up on SugarSync. I'm fed up of duplicate files. I'm now using the ismestorage client with SkyDrive and Amazon S3. There are more options, and it works with iWork, probably the best editor on the iPad (but shame on Apple for having to turn to third party Apps to use it !)
Still waiting for a search feature....
