New Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 to be announced at IFA Berlin

Summary: Samsung seems to be a champion of the Android tablet 7 inch form factor and it looks like they will reveal a new one next week in Berlin.

It seems I am only one that thinks a 7 inch tablet is an attractive form factor. According to information that the Verge gang found in the Samsung Mobile Unpacked (Android Market link), Samsung will be launching three new products at the IFA trade show in Berlin next week that includes a Galaxy Tab 7.7 device.

I owned the original 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab and enjoyed using the device, but then moved to a newer HTC Flyer as my Android tablet. There are no details on this next version, but we can assume the display size goes up a bit to a 7.7 inch design since their 10.1 and 8.9 Tabs have those matching size displays. The Wave 3 is also going to be announced and is assumed to be a Bada OS device. Lastly, the Galaxy Note, a mystery device will be the third new announcement.

Install this Samsung Mobile Unpacked app on your Android device and on September 1st there should be more information and details revealed.

I too loved the original form factor - a perfect size.

I agree on the 7 inch form factor. Prefer it over 10 inch tablet.
It feels more natural when reading and is easier to hold.
And you can hold it in your hands horizontally or vertically and type with both of your thumbs.

A big phone.... the masses will not fall for it. They will not fall for Android and certainly not for a 7 inch tablet

You DO know that Android phones outnumber the iPhone now... and in one year, Android slates have taken 34% of the tablet market (much faster than Android phone captured that much of the smartphone market)...

the masses also prefer houses to condos. But condos sell quite well don't they.

  • You're not the only one

"It seems I am only one that thinks a 7 inch tablet is an attractive form factor."

I gave up on the iPhone in part because it was too small to do serious internet activity without dropping into an app. The 10" size is just too big to carry everywhere.

My Viewpad 7 is exactly the right size. I carry it in my inside jacket pocket. It can fit easily in my pants pocket AND in my t-shirt pocket. It's a natural size for an ebook reader - it fits in one hand perfectly.

    For me, it's perfect.

Hope that this would be thinner and lighter than original tab.

7-8 inch tablet is my perfect tablet size. I have a 10" tablet and as mobile as it is, its really still too large imo. If I was 7 feet tall with giant hands, 10" tablets might be ok. But I find it too much of a pain to drag out of my backpack and do a quick map look up. Digging it out/into my backpack is a pain. Granted in the big scheme of things, its just another 10 seconds but to me if you want a truly mobile device that is easy to carry like a phone, 10" tablet doesn't cut it. My tablet serves as a big clock and sofa surfing. Thats about it. Every time I leave the apartment I look at it and I say "eh forget it, leaving it at home not going to carry it today". So for most days it just ends up at home in its charger.
