Samsung's Galaxy Tab to be shown off on Thursday

Will an iPad competitor finally hit the streets?

It's no secret that Samsung Mobile will be hosting an event in NYC on Thursday (see below).

What's unknown at this point, though, is what is going to be officially announced, priced, and shipping, after the event.

The first guess, which is a pretty logical one, is that Samsung will be showing off its Galaxy Tab. If you're not familiar with it, it's a 7-inch Android (2.2) tablet that will do video conferencing, Flash, Augmented Reality, and just about any other thing you'd want it to do. What's unknown at this point, though, is which carriers will carry it, and how much it's going to cost.

The latest speculation from The Wall Street Journal puts the Tab at Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel, and AT&T, and Engadget seems to have unearthed proof that it will definitely launch on Verizon, speculation is no longer needed. As of this writing I've only been able to confirm that "testing" is occurring at Sprint and that it seems to run most Android apps without issue.

The Galaxy Tab definitely looks like a cool device, and arguably could be an iPad killer, if you don't want to tap into the 250k+ apps available on the App Store. I'm holding out to see what the price will be, if you'll be locked into a contract, and also what it will drop to around holiday time. For now, though, you can enjoy the video of the Tab in action below, and fantasize about how it's going to change your life.
