The Callet: a wallet and iPhone case in one

The Callet: a wallet and iPhone case in one

Summary: It's incredibly functional and has become my preferred case for my iPhone

SHARE:

I've been trying to find the best case for my iPhone for a long time now. Over the years I have certainly gone through more than enough of them and my latest one is called the Callet.

The Callet is a smartphone case and wallet in one. It features slit pockets on its back, to hold your cash and credit cards, and is made from a high quality Gel-Polymer. As I mentioned, the pockets themselves are designed to hold credit cards or money but I find the best use for them is actually for holding my business cards. I've carried business cards in my pocket before, but having them bound to my iPhone, which is always on me, seems like something that was meant to be.

As for the case itself, it does a great job of protecting the iPhone, but is not that pretty to look at. However, where it lacks in looks, being that it's a gel exterior, it more than makes up for in functionality. So far I have dropped my iPhone numerous times with it shielded by the Callet, and I have yet to incur any scratches. This is thanks to the slightly above glass gel surroundings of the Callet.

Another advantage of the gel exterior is that I can put my iPhone in just about any position in my car. In the past I worried about the back of the phone scratching, or the phone sliding off of a seat, or on any part of the car that I rested it on. But thanks to the Callet's gel exterior, it acts as a no skid surface, and makes it so that the iPhone stays exactly where I placed it.

The only drawback I have found so far with the Collet is that since I use it to hold business cards, the top card tends to get destroyed, since the phone continues to come in and out of my pocket. That said, it's a small trade-off when you think about the functionality that is offered by marrying the two. I'm also looking forward to taking my phone with the Callet on some personal adventures, since I should be able to leave my wallet behind, thanks to the built-in pockets.

You can read more about the Callet or purchase it for $19.99 at TheCallet.com. Also, if you want to dress it up a bit, you can choose from some other colors (I prefer the black), including pink, blue, and white.

An excellent example of a story only considered newsworthy because it's an opportunity to mention an Apple product in the headline.

This thing is pretty pointless if its all gel, because with my level of use I can already tell the gel material is going to deform and cause the potential risk of credit cards and ID falling out as I put my phone in and out of my pocket.

It's a good idea in principle, but still needs some work.

  • So lose everything all at one.

better yet, pull out youwallet everytime you need to use your phone, just more opportunity to leave it someplace or lose stuff from your wallet.

A good friend of mine uses a wallet/phone case in one. I think it's kind of a weird idea, really. Especially considering (like one other poster said) the pockets will loosen up with use and you end up losing your ID, Cards, etc. every time you pull your phone out of your pocket. Not to mention leaving your phone behind at a restaurant or something. Then you lose your wallet, phone and ID all in one shot. If you drop the phone, you have to worry about losing the contents.

This is just a bad idea for a product in my opinion. People have been carrying wallets for years. Why do you need to bulk up your phone with all of the crap that goes in your wallet?

By the way, is it pronounced "Call-it" or "Cal-lay"? I'm guessing it's the former, but I keep saying the latter in my head when I read it. The name is really confusing.

A ho-hum product right down to the name...

I agree with all the comments.

It's a "As seen on TV" product. Maybe, they'll offer a buy one and get a free can of spray-on hair.

    • I could use the spray on hair.

  • Been done - better...

http://www.case-mate.com/iPhone-3G-Cases/Case-Mate-iPhone-3G-3GS-ID-Credit-Card-Cases.asp - my friend in her MD residency uses this Casemate (or something very similar) to keep ID, a credit card and her phone together while unable to use a purse. She's been using it for a couple years now and loves it. NOT a gel case.

  • Converged Wallet / Phone Case is not a new idea / product

Ever since my first converged device, a WinMo Brick (Singular 8125); I used a converged wallet by NazTech and my 3 GS until it was falling apart; now I'm using a converged wallet that fits my 3 GS a whole lot better sold by cellphoneshop dot com.

  • I thought

Cell phones could de-magnetize the strips on cards. Is this thing shielded somehow?

@Venator000 Not only that, it could scramble the rfid chips used in international credit cards.

They have been selling this type of case forever everywhere. You can buy the case-mate version as a previous poster mentioned or one no name brand on eBay for less than $5. For me its great for those few times I don't want to carry a purse when running out the door for a quick errand, but that is all I use it for if I even remember it for that since its sort of cumbersome, I stick to my barely there case-mate case because I prefer my phone to be mostly just my phone. At any rate, the price for this is way too high.

Not being the daily suit wearer, a wallet to me goes in my back pocket...good luck with that thing.
