If you’ve ever dreamed of being the next singing sensation, or can’t get enough of singing along with your favorite tunes, then the Soulo Karaoke app is for you. Soulo Karaoke allows you to sing along with your iTunes library or download new songs that feature the lyrics scrolling along the screen, just like a real karaoke machine.
The application itself is free, works on iPhone or iPad, and comes with one song to get you started. From there you can download songs for 99 cents each, via in-app purchase. Once downloaded, you can “SING, RECORD, and SHARE!” as the company states. It’s really just that easy, too. I’ve created quite a few masterpieces so far, and I’m just getting started.
To get started you launch the app, select a song from Soulo Tracks, and then choose to record either audio or audio and video. While recording you can choose to sing along with and include the original vocals or replace them with your voice. If you’re worried about your ability to sing on tune, the app includes pitch enhancement, which is just like auto-tune. When you’re done recording, you can either play it back or share it via YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or e-mail.
For my test the company sent me the Soulo Mic, which sells for $69.99 and comes with 10 free song downloads, so I had a bunch of songs to get started with.
The Soulo Karaoke app is fun for all ages, and is definitely something you want to download and get up and running before you ring in the new year. It works with the built-in microphone of the iPad or iPhone, but is even better when you add the Soulo microphone.
