White iPhone hits AT&T and Verizon

By | April 28, 2011, 5:25am PDT

Summary: It’s really just a color change

The long rumored White iPhone has surfaced. While it’s functionally the same, it seems to be something that the tech world has been wanting for a while.

The interesting thing about the white iPhone is that it’s really just the same as the other iPhone 4, but the rumors around it says that it’s more expensive and has more functionality. In reality though, it’s just a color change.

I’m happy with my iPhone 4 in black, and have dabbled with using different cases that make the back of it white, green, and just about any other color. So, I’m just not sure why there’s so much excitement around the white iPhone.

With the above in mind, Palm did create a tremendous amount of buzz each time it released a new color for its successful Palm Centro device, so I’m sure that Apple’s white iPhone will create a similar amount of buzz, especially since it has changed its main page to feature it today.

Good day to confirm this comment I would appreciate T h e b e s t o f Z D N e t d e l i v e r e d your website very nice to everyone Yes, Oracle is the only one with shared-disk architecture, but that is there advantage. It means you can add or remove nodes and the database lives on. In a shared nothing architecture, if you lose a node, you lose the system. I'm sure Oracle appreciates EMC highlighting their advantage.I also desire to signal in your RSS feeds. Thank you as soon as once again and maintain up the great operate Awesome post! YAY! Another White iPhone Blog
bobiroc 28th Apr 2011
Haven't seen enough of these.

Seriously though, you ZDNet bloggers need to get together and share what you are writing about. It gets very annoying to see 50 headlines all about the same crap. Especially when the crap is just a phone with a new color.
@bobiroc: Obviously, it is an event that will cause sales of millions of units of the device.

So it is fair for the world's biggest selling design (which is expected to reach likely 80 million units this year, aide of older 3Gs -- not even any cheapest model of Nokia comes with such circulation).

@denisrs

Doesn't change the fact that this headline has been way over-repeated on this site.

Even this blogger says he is not sure why there is so much excitement over a color but yet he is writing about it.

It is a toss up about which event has more unneeded press between the White iPhone 4 and the Royal Wedding. Neither are very newsworthy in my opinion.

@bobiroc

I totally agree!! You guys are sitting around writing stories about the same topics. And seriously who gives a **** about a white iPhone that will be replaced in a few months anyway. Is there anyone out there who was still holding out for a white iPhone? Not likely... And if you are in the market for a new phone and want an iPhone wait for the iPhone 5, it'll be here in a few months!!

@Masari.Jones

That's how I feel but I do know at least one person that is willing to go stand in line, pay a fee on top of the $200 - $300 cost for the White iPhone 4 and then probably attempt to sell his black iPhone 4 just to have the white one that offers nothing but a color change.

And it'll be avaliable in white, too!

@Masari.Jones
Though I have no doubt that denisrs is right, millions of people will buy this because they've been either waiting for white, or those that will pay the $300 ETF just to walk around with the "white" iPhone, whatever that gets you.

What's the point of a white phone if users are going to put a sleeve on it anyway? Just buy a white sleeve.
Hoo boy! You guys are too easy on Apple.

@mktpostal@...

You obviously do not get it. If you wanna be cool you have to have the white iPhone.

The sad part about that is I actually have a friend (well kind of a friend anyway) who notoriously loves Apple and anything they do. Buys new iGadgets as soon as the come out and waits in line for days if he has too. He is actually going to pay a fee to upgrade to the White iPhone 4 to replace his black iPhone 4 on top of the $199 - $299 price tag. Then he will most likely get the iPhone 5 in a few months when that is released and pay another fee.

He lectured me when I chose to skip the iPhone 3GS and wait another year and said I should upgrade every time a new one comes out. I just don't get people like that and what makes it even more sad is that I am sure there are others like him.

It must be hard to be ruled by the gadgets and technology in your life but hey on a bright note they will make good slaves when the AI robots take over in the future.

He can put the black one on Ebay and sell it for 500... go look at prices there.
@bobiroc

Which is also crazy IMO. Not for the seller but for the buyer willing to pay for it.

Sure, priced at 500 bucks and not selling
Bill Pharaoh 28th Apr 2011
@Hasam1991
0 bid, 2 bids, the ones with more are mostly all for unlocked phones.
Sure, he can put it on ebay for $500, but it doesn't look as though he will sell it on ebay.

In the end all he'll have done is buy a white iPhone, while his black one is relagated to a drawer in his house someplace.

Re: It is called loyalty
bobiroc 28th Apr 2011
@Hasam1991

Don't confuse loyalty with stupidity. If you got the money then fine but why would you need 6 pairs of sunglasses even?

If you prefer BMW then that is cool they make a fine automobile but do you run out and get a new one with each model change or if they come out with the same model in a different color of paint?

I respect people's preferences and choice but fail to understand how money and time can be wasted like that. Even if he does sell that black iPhone on ebay is it worth waiting in line for hours or some cases more than a day to get it? And then going through the trouble to sell the old one on Ebay or some other way?

I guess I am just old fashioned and never felt I had to buy something as a status symbol or get the latest and greatest to have the bragging rights. I appreciate fine quality and I am willing to pay a bit extra for it. I guess that is why I am only on my 3rd car in over 20 years of driving and don't buy my clothes from some trendy mall store. I think there are more practical things to do with my time and money.
While it?s functionally the same, it seems to be something that the tech world has been wanting for a while.

Only Apple could garner so many headlines about a new color for an existing product.

@ye

I thought of getting one initially for my Wife and was willing to wait a couple months and let her have my old 3G iPhone until then but now it is pointless.

If I decide to stick with the iPhone I may see if AT&T will let me use the upgrade that is still on her line for the iPhone 5 and activate it under my line and give her the iPhone 4. But I got time to think about that.

I'm good with my iPhone4 in Basic Black... even if they had the white one when I bought mine I'd have gotten black. I know some peeps who are really jonesin' for the white model - so much that they've held on to their 3G and 3Gs devices rather than upgrade to the 4. It'll be interesting to see if they have the same issues with the white iPhone 4 as they did with the white iPhone 3Gs devices.

Fanboy crap... Basically what this site comes down to. This site has become a useless, irrelevant, fanboy circle-jerk... Probably how they came up with the idea for a white iClone.

Could you please try writing, just once, about something truely innovative (which apple hasn't been since 2007). I would settle for something relevant.

I know, maybe you could start off small and just write about something that your own site hasn't posted before.

Your blog is the journalistic equivilant of a chick-flick, no, scratch that (some of them have actually been ok)... it's the journalistic equivilant of a harlequin romance.

The iPhone is just not that great anymore. There are alternatives that are just as good and in some ways much better. Stop overplaying the slightest change to a flagging model, it lowers you and makes you look like you should be writing Walmart flyers.
