Readers know I bought and thoroughly enjoy using my Apple iPad 2 with AT&T 3G service. I have had a few readers email me about connectivity issues with the Verizon 3G model and after hearing about their woes I am glad I made the last minute decision to stick with AT&T. According to Boy Genius Report Apple is about to release iOS 4.3.2 to all iOS devices and it may fix the Verizon issues.

As posted on the All Things Digital site, Apple issued a statement on Friday stating that they are looking into the issue. They did not state whether it was a Verizon or Apple issue and are simply investigating it. There are something like six pages of comments on the issue on their own Apple support forums so they had to make some acknowledgement. In some cases I heard they have been letting people exchange faulty devices for ones that don't have the issue. I understand that the problem is that 3G is lost and the iPad switches to roaming and then requires a reset to get back to 3G. I can confirm that my AT&T 3G iPad connects flawlessly every time and does not have this issue.

The iOS 4.3.2 update is going to be coming to all the latest iOS devices and it will include some minor enhancements, fixes, and security updates.

    I have connectivity issues with the original Ipad which were never addressed or fixed so I sure am glad I went with a Xoom this time and not the Ipad2. My Xoom connects beautifully and flawlessly. xoooooom xooooooom

      @quiltfanatic Then you are doing something horribly wrong. I have handled and setup over 30 original iPads (all 3G) for clients at a former job and they worked 100% perfect.

      • Seriously?

        @Bates_
        It couldn't be a hardware issue or maybe the network sucks in his area? There's a lot of things that could go wrong. Heck, I couldn't even think of how to create connectivity issues with the iPad. It just works...or it doesn't.

        Please save yourself some time and spare us the idiotic comments.

        @jsperson@... You are correct, it could be one of the issues you mentioned and it could also simply be a hater that is making up the whole thing to promote his belief that the Android offerings are better than the iPad. Either way we will never know but if his story is true I have to ask why he didn't exchange it for one that works just fine, Apple would have been more than happy to do that if there was actually an issue with it.

    I'm going to go out on a limb here: It's likely a Verizon issue, since the iPad hit verizon we have been experiencing 3G problems on our droids. Previously near perfect coverage now changes constantly throughout our town. I can sit in one spot and watch the 3g/1x icons and my signal strength meter on two different phones blip on & off and shift from 1-5 bars. Verizon has replaced our phones, pretended to check our site signal strength, run a bzillion tests, and generally acted baffled...but nonetheless connecting is now simply a roll of the dice. Perhaps their infrastructure wasn't fully prepped for this data load?

    • Really, you think ipad is causing this?

      @trackzilla They havent sold enough ipads to make that kind of difference in signal strength.

      It's more likely you have an issue with the cell site serving you.

        @otaddy Maybe not, but then again this is a small town with a big university...the tech dynamic is prone to pushing boundaries in peculiar manner. I agree the cell site is a more probabale failure point, but Verizon insists it's fine & has been put through a pile of tests, so I'll continue grasping at straws I suppose.
