Acer Iconia Tab line to get Ice Cream Sandwich

By | February 17, 2012, 4:30am PST

Summary: The entire Acer Iconia Tab line of tablets will be getting updated to Android 4.0, beginning with the A200 rolling out now.

Acer is not the first brand you may think of when you think tablet, but the company is moving to reward those who do. The entire line of Acer Iconia Tabs will be getting Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich, starting with the A200 which is getting an OTA update now.

The A100 and A500 will both get ICS updates in April, bringing the line up-to-date with Android. The A100 was the first 7-inch Android tablet to ship with Honeycomb, the first version of Android optimized for tablets. The Acer line of tablets is not the most powerful, but are budget-friendly devices with plenty of features for the money. It is good to see Acer move quickly to get ICS on its tablet line, something other OEMs are being slow to do.

Yeah, I have the A500 too, and I love it. Pity it is so under appreciated. I also think ICS will do wonders for the tab...:-)

Good to know. But can you post the source of this info. Thus far, there has been some updates on country-specific Acer FaceBook pages and reports of chats with Customer Service. Thanks.

@crystalsoldier I don't have a link to the press release which I received directly from Acer.

OK. Thanks.
I have a A500 and love it. It's not a cheap device, I've accidently dropped it a few time and it's fine. Also, unless I use apps the tax the CPU I don't have problems with lock-up's, etc. And when I do, it's after a few days leaving it in standby. And as far as the selection of apps available for Android vs. Ipad there's only so many "useful" apps you may need.
