All tablets sold in Q3 2010 Tablet were iPads, well almost

By | February 25, 2011, 8:21am PST

Summary: ABI Research has published a report containing tablet sales figures for the third quarter of last year, and it was an iPad quarter. Of the 4.5 million tablets sold during that period, a whopping 4.2 million were iPads.

ABI Research has published a report containing tablet sales figures for the third quarter of last year, and it was an iPad quarter. Of the 4.5 million tablets sold during that period, a whopping 4.2 million were iPads. This only left crumbs for the few competitors trying to bust into the tablet limelight.

To be fair, the only tablet released last year that garnered significant sales numbers (depending on who you believe) was the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Tab wasn’t released in time to factor into these numbers so a similar report covering the following quarter would be interesting to see.

Apple didn’t invent the tablet, in spite of what some believe, but it perfected the product to give it mass appeal for the first time. There is no denying how compelling a user experience the iPad delivers. My Mom (pictured with iPad above), who has actively resisted touching a computer of any kind for her 80+ years, took to the iPad immediately when it was handed to her. She admitted she wasn’t intimidated by it at all, as it “invites you to touch it”. That is what competitors are faced with, and it’s not going to be an easy battle to win.

Yes ,Last year Apple dominated or rather single handedly ruled the tablet market.Coming year or two it is expected to dominate simply because of the huge advantage of last years figures. Hope others too flood the users with better features in order to gain market share.(tech-sharing.com)

Q4 was 22% Android tablets, 78% iPad
daboochmeister 25th Feb 2011
There was a reputable report that showed this ... I'll try to find the link. I DON'T know if it's sales to channel vs. users, etc. Most of that 22% was the Galaxy Tab, was the conclusion.
@daboochmeister

That was debunked and found to be not true at all.

Just so you know they have been leaving all the original tablet devices including Archos (also first Multimedia device to surf the web with) and Microsoft's Origami Devices along with countless others out of those numbers.

Archos alone had healthy sales including devices with Windows 7 installed. Unless you are as retarded as other iCrAppleholics thinking iFad is somehow more Magical and Revolutionary than the rest of the World and therefore able to yell..... FIRST.... like some kiddie on a playground!

Yeah.... Slates, Tablets etc are nothing NEW themselves. Just CrApple's using a iPod Touch OS to run them is. But Magical and Revolutionary??? lol.... yeah right!!! ahaha.... next thing you know all you iCrAppleholics will be claiming CrApple invented the Wheel!

And if they did..... we'd know it's not true or else it'd be square like Steve Jobs's head!!! .......and it'd be known as the iWheel a device to help prevent that law of nature.... "What goes around comes around". Because CrApple doesn't want what it's been throwing out in the way of Karma to come around...... again!!!

CrApple = A group of Wall Street Gypsy Barkers using RDF Infomercial Marketing to saturate the World with their Trinkets, Toys and Devices that can't do what you bought them for. Like make calls or actually surf the REAL WEB! .....FYI all you iCrAppleholics!!! Surfing the full web (not iCrApple Fool's AOL HELL Garden Walled Web) includes the close to 90% of web with FLASH CONTENT ON IT!

FLASH that's included on over 70% of the Web Pages still being developed TODAY. That all right alongside HTML5 across the Web! .....how many new web pages have the competitor's Quicktime plugin embedded? How about ZERO!!! lol.... wink
@i2fun@... It doesn't matter because the iPad doesn't support quicktime either!

themselves.. Classic:) Seriously funny. The Greek Tragedy aspect is despite their collective angst and very emotional responses to a company that does not even know they exist nor care all their efforts come to naught. The perfect ending to this story....

Apple "perfected" the product?
adornoe@... 25th Feb 2011
I guess that means that, there will never be any need to change the product, and that all other efforts by the competition to produce their "imperfect" products are a waste of time and money and effort.

Perfection cannot be improved upon.
by ZDNet for Apple and being paid by Apple?

And, is the mother in that picture being compensated for participating in the ad?
you end up making off like a bandit.

Way to go Apple! Good for you! you lied and cheated and conned money out of good, hard working Americans and their families, all for your bottom line.

You and Wall Street deserve each other

Folks, wake up! Apple is lying to you!

@SonofaSailor

Well, I'm sold. I mean it totally conflicts with every single Apple store encounter I have ever had but if some anonymous employee(?) said it then it certainly must be true.

YOU WERE BEING LIED TOO

@SonofaSailor

Let's see take my own personal experiences against that of an anonymous employee and some anonymous Apple hater? Hmmmm. That's a tough one I'll tell ya.
@oncall : OK. So you are one happy person but that doesn't mean it's a perfect survey. Ask a couple of thousand people (for statistical purposes) and see if they agree with you or the anonymous employee.

While an "anonymous" employee can be fishy, I'm hoping that the writer of the story verified that the employee is in fact employed by Apple [directly]. I'd still prefer it over some grandmother [!!] who fowards the story [that was already forwarded 5 times] to everyone in her contacts without checking first.

Yes I'm a limited survey

@Gis Bun

And people suggest Apple fans are gullible? I am one happy customer vs one unhappy anonymous. We don't know who this anonymous is, if he/she is an Apple employee at all, nor do we have unhappy customers to corroborate his/her story. I mean come on! It's a very VERY easy story to corroborate, just walk into any Apple store and ask them what will happen if you jailbreak your iPhone or some other question to which you already know the correct answer.
@SonofaSailor

Wake up loser, no one cares what you have to say...

So you're saying 14 million people were lied to by an Apple salesperson?

What about those that bought the iPad without sales help? Were they being lied to?

I went in and actually USED the iPad before I bought it, didn't use any salespeople or talk to them, I made the decision on my own.

Probably something beyond your comprehension but that's okay, we all know you're nothing more than a five or six alter moron stalking people from place to place...

Only the Apple iPad tablets were bought by consumers in overwhelming numbers compared to other tablet choices. The other tablets were still available. They were simply ignored by the majority of business and consumer customers.
