Verizon has confirmed the Droid Charge will be available in retail stores tomorrow, and online beginning at midnight tonight. The Charge was originally due for release a few weeks ago, but Verizon delayed the launch. As expected the Droid Charge will be $299 with a new 2-year contract with Verizon.

I am still evaluating the Droid Charge, and find it to be one of the finest smartphones on the market. Check out my full review to see if the Charge, with 4G LTE connectivity, is in your future. The photo gallery below shows the Droid Charge in full detail, including comparison shots with the HTC Thunderbolt.

  • Buyer Beware!

If my experience with a Samsung Galaxy Tab purchased recently from Verizon is any guide, the Droid Charge is liable to be full of non-removable crapware, and to have unreliable email--particularly if your email account resides on an ISP. You can try Googling "disappearing emails" and similar phrases for evidence of the latter problem. There may or may not be an email app on the Android market that provides a reliable substitute for the stock Android client.

And if you take more than 14 days to figure out whether email is working, discover it is not, and to try to fix it Verizon will stonewall you on returning the device and canceling your contract without penalty.

It would be prudent to wait for a credible review of the device that specifically addresses these issues before buying one.
