Fring is a free video chat app that has just upped Facetime on the iPad by offering free group video calls. Up to four folks can participate in a video call, although I suspect lag will be a part of such calls. The calls can be made over Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G, and are not restricted to devices on a given platform. Fring currently works on iOS, Android and Nokia devices, and calls can be held cross-platform. The new app is available in the App Store, and works on the iPod Touch and iPhone, but group calling really needs the big screen of the iPad.
