When disaster strikes the ability to reach family members and authorities quickly is priceless, and the folks at Guardly have our backs. The Guardly app is now available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, providing one touch connection to a personal safety network and authorities during times of stress and disaster.

During an emergency event Guardly allows members of a user's defined personal network to communicate amongst each other through mobile web and web incident pages, SMS and voice conferencing for the duration of the emergency event. Events can be full-blown disasters or simply feeling threatened by a stranger while alone at night. The app lets the user decide if an event can be handled best by family members or if authorities should be informed. The Guardly system is also good for those with medical conditions who might require immediate assistance that is easily summoned.

The Guardly Premium service is $9.99 monthly or $99.99 per year and is currently available on the iPhone, with BlackBerry and Android versions in the works.

  • How hackable is it?

Having all your deepest personal contacts available at the touch of a button seems very open to abuse. It would have to be easy to activate if you were caught in the middle of a disaster - whether personal (heart attack) or larger (earthquake) - so keeping it secure would be very important.
