You can't order it yet, but the HP TouchPad is definitely getting closer to release as it has appeared on Amazon. The TouchPad is the webOS packing tablet that I had the pleasure of seeing last month at the launch event, and it is an exciting product.

The TouchPad is a 9.7-inch tablet with a dual-core Snapdragon processor inside that runs webOS 3.0, the next version of the HP/Palm OS built for tablets. It has the ability to work with the HP Pre 3 smartphone also announced last month.

There is no pricing on the Amazon listing, so we'll have to wait to see how HP positions this in relation to the iPad 2. To see the TouchPad in action, check out my videos captured at the launch event. You'll see why I am so excited about the TouchPad.

  • Thanks for the info, James. Just a few questions.

Do you know if the HP TouchPad is a "stand alone" device or must it be tethered occasionally to another PC like the iPad must use iTunes and another PC?

Since HP Printers have wireless print capability, does the TouchPad support wireless print output on all printers or just HP units?

Check out PreCentral for the answers. The TouchPad is supposed to be a standalone device, so we'll just have to see.

All indications are pointing to printing to HP printers only, but we'll have to see what is delivered.

@kenosha7777 That is correct on both counts, it is standalone like all webOS devices and only prints to certain HP printers.

Definitely looking forward to the TouchPad release. Supposedly they've moved it up to sometime in April. More details at http://TouchPadForums.com

Touchpad looks pretty cool, but later on this year a quadcore Asus tablet is supposed to hit, I'm waiting on that one. Asus usually has great hardware, but not really sure what the OS will be, most likely Android.
