Sprint getting the iPhone, with unlimited data, canceling employee vacations

Summary: Sprint is expected to get the next iPhone when it is launched, and will offer it with an unlimited data plan unlike AT&T and Verizon. Sprint is also canceling employee time off for the expected launch.

SHARE:

Sprint has been expected to get the iPhone 5 (or whatever Apple calls the next iPhone), and word this week leaked that the Now Network would be the only carrier to offer unlimited data with the phone. Both AT&T and Verizon have tiered data plans with the iPhones they sell, but Sprint intends to continue its unlimited data plan for the iPHone as it does all smartphones it sells.

The new iPhone may be appearing in just a few weeks, as SprintFeed has uncovered an internal memo from Sprint notifying employees that time off is not possible between September 30 and October 15. The time off "blackout" is due to "the possibility of a major phone launch", which sounds a lot like the much anticipated iPhone debut by Sprint.

Neither Apple nor Sprint is commenting on any of this information, so like all rumors they must be taken with a grain of salt. As often is the case, however, the rumors are beginning to add up to paint a pretty good picture.

    • Actually, it's all hype and that's about it

      @James Quinn
      Verizon gets the iPhone, "cancele vacations, ect ect ect."

      No big thing came of it, it was pretty average sales day on launch.

      Sometime things are done for the hype, what can you do?

      • So breaking all sales records for a launch day is an "average sales day"?

        @John Zern

        Just wondering? Compare it to any Android or WinMo or WP7 phone launch.

        Yes because becoming verizons best selling phone is nothing. A phone that is already old sellign as much as it did and also was given credit for making androids numbers decline in the us.

      @James Quinn
      People have been blaming Apple for practices by Chinese suppliers that supply the entire tech industry so why not blame Apple carriers cancelling vacation too.

  • Actually, Apple DOES demand vacations be cancelled

    ...part of the agreement between Apple and any Cell Phone carrier that carries the iPhone is, on launch day the Carrier has to have all it's employees line up like idiots outside store, eagerly awaiting a crap phone.

    That's one way how Apple and it's marketing machine have fooled so many people into thinking the iPhone is worth buying.

        @illwill112 Try "too much", or "swear". That's right, they're not iDiots...

      @SonofaSailor Yes that and the amazing build quality, wonderful functionality, the endless amount of apps, the incredibly easy to use and learn friendly user interface, the huge amount of third party support... DO I need to continue? Take your nonsense elsewhere.

    Yep and much like the Verizon deal, it will be a non-event! Anyone who wants one will pre-order the device and anyone that doesn't either already has the phone they want or they're going to go ahead and buy something else like the EVO 3D.

    • That none event was the most successful week in Verizon's history

      @Peter Perry Out of the mouse of Verizon.

      • RE: Sprint getting the iPhone, with unlimited data, canceling employee vacations

        @wackoae I know, they had the Thunderbolt then too remember, that was their best selling phone during that time. That was also out of their mouth. And lack of LTE makes the Bionic the big dog.

        Now, even though it was their best week doesn't mean they weren't all preorders does it?

        Have peter can we make a bet. If the Iphone 5 Dominates in sales on all three service privders and has lines again, will you stop posting.

    • The Verizon iPhone is still the best selling launch phone is Verizon's hist

      @Peter Perry

      Period. The thunderbolt, Android's best on Verizon, was still less than 1.4 the volume.

      Does that make Android's biggest opener even lower than a non-event? From your logic, would it not make sense to discuss the Thunderbolt as failure even since it had a significantly lower demand at launch when compared to a "non-event"?

  • Quit whining!

    SonofaSailor must be a Windows boy. Still whining about iPhone not being the best. Get a clue. Who's driving the bus, dude? It's Apple and it has been for years and years...

    I've been developing high-tech products for over 30 years. When the Google search engine first launched I was one of the first users and have been a huge fan of Google. And I always stayed away from the over-hyped and over priced Apple products. So when I got my first iPhone 3G a few years ago, I was fully prepared to hate it.

    Well guess what? Apple has created, in my expert opinion, the finest single piece of technology in the history of mankind. That's right. It is not perfect... but only just barely. I know what goes on inside the engineering labs, and how products are conceived, developed, and delivered to customers. The iPhone is simply mind blowing. Google has done an amazing job matching the accomplishments of Apple -- but Apple did it first, and continues to lead.

    I never thought I would say it. I love my iPhone.
