TeleNav Updates Navigation Software for AT&T

Users of smartphone navigation software on many phone carriers (AT&T and T-Mobile among others) may not be aware that they are actually using the service provided by TeleNav. I have been using TeleNav for years, starting with the old Windows Mobile platform, and currently with Sprint Navigation. TeleNav is today rolling out a major software update for AT&T customers (other carrier versions to follow) with Android smartphones (Samsung Captivate and HTC Aria among them).

TeleNav GPS Navigator 6.2 has some major new features designed to aid the in-car navigation for users. Chief among them is the multiple routes now offered when a destination is entered, letting the user choose the one best suited for the trip. The routes are presented on the map view for easy selection of the desired route.

The new version has improved search capabilities for finding addresses, POIs and businesses. Traffic alerts can be programmed to notify the user via text message of adverse traffic conditions before leaving on the daily commute. All of these new features are augmented with improved voice control making hands-free operation more practical.

It means you can add or remove nodes and the database lives on. In a shared nothing architecture, if you lose a node, you lose the system.
