Attachmate's CEO insists that his company is committed to SUSE Linux and open source --not a quick sale.
In an interview with an opensuse Community manager at Novell,  Jeff Hawn acknowledges that Attachmate has no experience in the open source business. He maintains that his company aims to grow the Linux business. Yet declined to answer a direct question about whether he intends to sell SUSE.
SUSE will be run as a unit within Attachmate. and all important open source projects will continue to be supported by the company, Hawn said.
Hawn wrote an open letter to Novell customers and partners on Dec 15 to alleviate concerns, though he offered little in the way of specifics due to SEC rules about pending mergers. He noted that SUSE product development schedules will remain on track.

"Attachmate is committed to delivering quality products, providing exceptional  customer service, and being easy to do business with," Hawn wrote in that letter. "We are excited about the opportunity to make these same commitments to Novell customers after closing. To ensure that we do so, Attachmate will support the existing roadmaps and release schedules for products across the Novell and SUSE portfolios."
