Beta 3 of Firefox 3 will be code complete on January 29 as planned.

That’s the news coming out of a meeting of Mozilla developers on Monday, who noted that there are just two fixes left to do before freezing the code.

With that, Mozilla will start the final builds of Beta 3 on February 4.

The code freeze was expected earlier in the month but developers opted on January 15 to push it to January 29.

Beta 3 incorporates the much anticipated "Proto" for OSX Macintosh interface, which was previously being tested as an add-on to the browser.

Then you should stick with IE! It is definitely a more suitable browser for you then.

Good news: They're just doing bug fixes now. It should be stable before release.

Plenty of people. Web develpers, extension developers, application developers using FF as a XUL runtime environment... interested end-users, early adopters, independent testers...

• I'm just an end user

I went to 3.02b just to see what it was and it has been so good that I never went back to version 2. It is much more stable than IE any version and faster. NO I don't work for Firefox or Microsoft. The only drawback is lack of addons and the way bookmarks are stored, which works okay but takes some getting use to the new way.

• I hold with maddog -

if it weren't for the fact that some of the add-ons that I find indispensible, like del.icio.us bookmarks and the Google toolbar, are not yet available for the Firefox 3.0 betas, I'd use them exclusively (on Linux, in the form of the respective Swiftweasel build). The important thing is that the bugs have been ironed out before FF 3.0 is finally released ; the add-ons will come soon after !...

Guess What! - You are not the only one!

I have been using FF3.0b since it was publicly available; and with the exceptions you have noted, I have had very few problems using it on this slow old 1.1G P3 with only 256Mb of memory. I have seen reports of problems with many tabs open, but I have not experienced them. I can not wait for the final release version.

My suggestion for those graphically inclined is for someone to produce the appropriate icon for IE: a piece of Swiss cheese with bugs crawling out of it.

• Me too!

I have been using FF for years.
Being quite conservative, I don't usually run betas.
I haven't had any problems with FF2. In fact I love it. I am looking forward to FF3.

As an aside, I'm using Vista Home Premium. I'm really wanting the final release of SP1 to become available. I'm having all sorts of issues with Vista. Most recently I tried to open IE, but it wouldn't! iexplore was in the task list, but no window opened on the desktop. Then it refused to shutdown. Just sat there on the Shutdown screen for over 1/2 an hour, before I hit the power button.

That's another reason I use FF.

I wish my extensions all worked, but some do and I have never had a crash.

I hope they fix the problem(reported bug) where the down scrolling arrow in the lower right of the screen is in the same space with the page expansion space. The down scrolling arrow doesn't work on my Mac Leopard OS.

I've been using trying it for a while. Neither it, nor
Safari will render my financial website. Firefox 2
renders it perfectly.

The failure was reported after testing every daily
update. Obviously to no avail.

Firefox 2.0.0.11.dmg has been downloaded and saved
for the future.

• Which one?

Which financial website? I use Morgan Stanley (FF2 works perfectly), and I would hate to find that FF3 won't work there. But if it doesn't, thats enough to stop me from migrating to it.

FF2 loads everything perfectly. FF3 superimposed some text over
others, but it could still be used. In contrast, Safari 3 and and
before could not even access the password protected site. FF2 and
3 both load Cox Cable Schedules. Again, Safari falls flat.

• Reported to who?

Did you report the problem to the FF team or the webmaster? Might want to run a HTML verifier on it and see if it might be a badly designed site.

• No Worries!

I have had absolutely no problems with FF 3 Beta 2 other than a slow addon update migrations. I am really looking forward to FF 3 Beta 3!

Where does stuff like "CODE FREEZE" come from?
BALTHOR
• Well, you see...

When they're done with the program, they take the code, ship it to Iowa in mid to late January, and they leave it outside for a few weeks.

It becomes frozen.
