Hyperic CloudStatus is now available to users of Google AppEngine cloud.

The program was already available to users of Amazon's Web Services cloud.

Hyperic principal engineer Jon Travis said the integration with Google is even "tighter" than with Amazon, but the two clouds serve different customer sets.

"The people using AppEngine are developing applications that work with MySpace and use the iPhone," he said. "AWS people are enterprise people, more likely to deploy our enterprise monitoring engine," Hyperic HQ.

Using Hyperic CloudStatus users can get a status on key cloud activities, often before the cloud service sends out an alert.  "When the big S3 outage happened a few weeks ago, we reported it 20 minutes before they did."

Having a clear weather report on a cloud could make such systems attractive alternatives to standard hosted applications, which don't often include real-time weather reports.

Along with the Google deal, Hyperic announced its first "cloud-specific plug-in" for its Hyperic HQ product. The free plug-in "extends the full monitoring and management capabilities of Hyperic HQ to App Engine users," the company said.

A white paper on CloudStatus is also available, as a PDF download.
