Open source going from strength to strength
However you feel about Hans Reiser, his fate should not distract us from the good news of today.
Open source continues moving from strength-to-strength.
This is especially true in international markets, where skeptics once believed pirated Windows would dominate.
- ApacheCon Europe grew 40% this year.
- Open source trade groups are growing across Asia, driven by support from big vendors.
- Open source is extending ever-further outward, to storage, training and (as we've seen) moviemaking.
There are always hiccups. But the trend remains clear. Technology is growing, and open source is growing even faster.
This is especially true in international markets. Double good news for American vendors, given the weak dollar.
Oracle's attempt to roll-up the database market failed, thanks to open source. Regardless of how Microsoft treats Yahoo, open source will continue moving forward.
