Medea's new vodka bottle allows you to program any 255-character message on its LED screen.

I'd expect this sort of thing from maybe Apple, but Dutch distillery MEDEA has come out with the first "iBooze" -- a vodka bottle that has a programmable scrolling 255-character LED message, using a method the company refers to as "Ticking", which is not to be confused with the symptoms of Tourette's Syndrome which has the same name.

Selling for a suggested retail price of $39.99 to $49.99 per 750ml bottle, the new vodka is available nationwide ready for the holiday season, or for your next championship Bitterballen-snarfing event.

The LED display is removable, freezer-proof, waterproof (just in case you want to try freezing the bottle inside a water-filled milk carton a-la Martha Stewart) and has an expected lifetime of a year and a half with its disposable battery.

So what's next? Wi-Fi and Twitter-enabled Jack Daniels?

Have you tried the new MEDEA vodka yet? Talk Back and Let Me Know.

I would expect to see this lead to advertising opportunities. Just think, some time in the near future, pop the cork on your fav bottle of wine and this triggers the OLED screen to start going on about how this wine is the best and why you need more. Maybe even the RFID tag in the bottle knows its the last one you opened and add's a case to your virtual shopping cart!

  • Talking bottles?

In the promo video I saw, I thought I heard the rep say that the bottles communicated with each other. That would be some serious tech. Or maybe it was just the bottle users wanting to talk to each other... can't remember, as I was testing the contents when I watched the promo.

    • They *do* communicate with each other

They post text messages on their screens so that the adjacent bottles can see them. But they can't read, so that's a problem. I think they said reading is a feature for Vodka 2.0.

Wouldn't it be interesting to see what the message on the bottle is when you first get up? The message that was programmed, just before the bottles contents were finished?

      @unclefixer@...

Or a message saying "9AM ? Don't you think it's a bit early to be drinking?"

Perhaps the label could then display recipes for a hangover remedy.

As for wifi and Twitter-enabled Jack, I like that idea- and if that ever came to be, I would have a lot more fun on Twitter! :))

  • It's the bottle.

You mean a vodka *bottle* that makes you look dorky. The stuff inside has been doing that for ages.

What a pain in the butt it is to enter that data! They should make it BlueTooth and link up with your cellphone to send it a message!
And you notice that after the third drink he wrote on a napkin? Entering the information through that complicated series of button presses was too difficult to do in his slightly inebriated state!

I want to see what kind of messages people type when they've FINISHED the bottle... LOL

  • next step is chopsticks

like in Neil Stevenson's "Diamond Age".

A serious drunk could program in a message for the cab driver - address, spouse will pay, etc.

What I am interested in is the uses after the display is taken off the bottle, and put on public stuff - maybe the bomb squad will be called out, like the Adult Swim PCB character (snicker).

You guys just don't see the potential to this Vodka bottle. Imagine giving your wife a bottle and having it say something really romantic, or how how about proposing to your girlfriend. Come on...use your imaginations.

@ladyjet Nothing says sincerity and romance like a scrolling LED message.

  • A must for all sailors

Gone are the days when you have to write the message in the bottle... get shipwrecked, write message, get wrecked, throw bottle with GPS co ordinates in the sea, wait for rescue with rest of case.

  • It's A Ticker!

Scrolling messages, how new is that? Guess you have to have already used these scrollers before but still fun. It's the placement that's somewhat fresh. Btw, how good is the vodka or does that really matter anymore? I'm sure the dorkiness would wear off after putting on the vodka glasses.<br>Parrotheads would tick, "W D W G D (& S)?"
