ITPThroughout 2004, ZDNet's IT Priorities data have been telling an interesting story about the future. The IT managers and executives we survey each month have told us that networking initiatives will account for 25-30% of their planned IT projects in 2005.

At the top of those project lists is wireless--40-50% of the networking projects will bring wireless connectivity to the enteprise's infrastructure. Having looked at tens of thousands of data points over the 2.5 years, we've been conducting the IT Priorities survey, the fact that one technology solution could claim such a large slice of the planning pie is remarkable. But which vendors are making the short list for these plans?

The story gets more interesting here--Cisco is the most most favored wireless vendor so far--nearly 1/3 of projects will rely on their solutions. The next most frequently preferred vendor is Linksys, identified by 12% of the decision makers. Just a word of caution though, dont take this vendor info to the bank yet. We've just begun collecting these data. The names on the short lists will surely change over the coming months, especially considering that nearly 25% are still evaluating solutions.
