ITPWe recently cited data from ZDNet's 2004 Printer Technology Study that cast HP as the clear favorite for color document imaging equipment . It turns out there is a bit more to the story. After some additional number crunching, we find that HP is more likely to be the vendor of choice for color document imaging equipment in organizations with 1,000 or more employees (60% of large organizations chose HP color). Lexmark, Minolta and Canon color equipment were more likely to be chosen by smaller organizations (those with less than 100 employees).

And HP also wins the contest in monochrome printers--almost 80% of large operations chose HP. Lexmark, Minolta and Oki Data were more likely to be chosen by businesses with less than 100 employees.

Xerox color and monochrome printers appear to play equally well in large and small businesses, with nearly 15% of each organization segment (small, medium, and large) choosing Xerox color equipment, and roughly 7% of all org segments selecting Xerox monochrome.
