What could they be up to on the security front?
The two sides did not elaborate and it might be way too early to get any specifics but that's not going to stop the speculation in security circles.
Some immediate guesses: Cisco could port its security agent to the BSD platform, giving it new (albeit small) market for host-based intrusion prevention technology. Apple has taken such a beating lately with the MOAB and Wi-Fi driver issues, it would make sense to have an IPS partnership to offer to its enterprise customer base.
Cisco and Apple could also work on integrating NAC (network access control) technology with Apple's Airport. That's one sure way to curb the flow of Wi-Fi-related vulnerabilities without having to rewrite all its drivers.
