Critical Adobe Flash, Adobe Air patches on tap

Summary: The patches will be released alongside updates from Microsoft and will affect all platforms -- Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Here's an important security heads-up to all computer users: Adobe plans to ship a critical Flash Player update next Tuesday to fix multiple serious security vulnerabilities.

The patches will be released alongside updates from Microsoft and will affect all platforms -- Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Adobe Flash Player is one of the most commonly exploited desktop application.  It is installed on more than 98% of all Internet-enabled computers so this should be a high-priority update for everyone.

Adobe says the update will affect Flash Player version 10.0.32.18 and earlier versions.

A security patch for Adobe Air is also expected on Patch Tuesday.

  • Started to get jaded to these.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Adobe actually tested
their product before releasing it to make sure
there weren't gaping security holes in it?

    • Since you're so perfect why don't you go work for them?

Or Microsoft? Single handedly you could solve all the worlds software security issues.

    • It could be worse - it could be running with root privileges.

But the underlying problem is one of "monoculture" again. Adobe's Flash is so ubiquitous that its bugs become practical attack vectors. Keep your eye on the gnash project:

When it meets your needs then you can drop Adobe's plugin and switch to that instead.

  • Scuse me but what are the vulnerabilities specifically?

    THAT would be newsworthy.

  • Linux 64-bit flash

I wonder how long us Linux users will have to wait for a 64-bit update.

    • Check Adobe's website on Tuesday, like everyone else

I don't think we had to wait any longer than anyone else last time.

Flash is more of a menace than IE.

  • What about Firefox 3.5 users?

Is there an update for Firefox 3.5 users? I went to the website to get Flash Player and it just reinstalled the old version 10.0.32.18, instead of the new version 10.0.42.34 offered to IE8 users.
