Evers has confirmed he will join the Santa Clara, Calif. security vendor on May 21 as director of public relations.

He joins McAfee at a time when the anti-virus powerhouse is looking to rebuild its public image, which has taken a beating from an accounting scandal that has ripped apart its management team.

The company has had four CEOs in six years after a stock options backdating scandal forced a restatement of several quarters of past financial results.

Evers is expected to help McAfee raise its profile at security conferences like the annual Black Hat confab.

At News.com, Evers was a prolific writer, blogger and podcaster, covering Internet and computer security issues.
