Multiple users are falling victims into a fast-spreading Facebook scam, using the "Osama EXECUTION video" theme.

Upon clicking on the tiny.cc shortened URL -- described as Special Forces hit squad put a bullet in the head of Bin Laden! -- users are asked to copy and paste a tiny javascript code into their browsers in order to reveal the video. By doing so, they will automatically post a link of the spreading instructions on the walls of their friends.

There's no actual video to look at, which could naturally change at any given moment of time, to include something more malicious rather than the spreading mechanism itself.

There are currently over 4.266 users at the scam site. Users are advised to avoid interacting with the propagating mechanism and report the site as a fraudulent one.

/me chuckles - there's an alternative hoax on FB that involves pressing control and alt keys in various combinations. It may be incomplete but it doesn't work on a Mac.

People who would paste code from someone they don't know into their web page frankly are too dumb to use the internet.

A similar delivery method is used promoting an app that purports to age your picture.

Looking at the code, you know it won't resolve to a Web page.

Another form now, apparently just have to click on a link to start it self-propagating amongst one's friends list... have seen one of mine try sending it to at least two of hers (including me)

My own cousin sent this bloody thing to me. I've threatened to rip him a fresh southerly exit if he does it again. But the real lesson here is that Farsebook doesn't give a damn about user security, otherwise they'd stamp these things out or block them and the capability to cause damage - by default.

Maybe someone can explain to me why that might be difficult to do, but right now I'm trying to find reasons to keep this virus on my Mac.

Yep, I'm probably immune - but for how long? Any network can be penetrated. In this case those using Windows PCs could be penetrated, the contents of their contacts filed farmed and exploited. That's too close for comfort.

Now, where did I park my Black Hawk?

  • Facebook is the repository of rampant stupidity

So many morons use Facebook, it's astonishing... It's the AOHell of the 21st Century (older users will remember what happened to the Internet when AOHell unleashed it's minions upon the Internet in the 90's)...<br><br>The stupidity will never end, that's why malware loves FarceBook

Invent an idiot-proof computer, and they will invent a better idiot.... :-)

It's not easy to report these scams - the only option is to report it as 'spam' - and people hesitate to call their friends spammers, specially when it's obvious they've simply been scammed.
