The PHP Group has issued its final patch for its open source scripting language.

In July, PHP said it would pull the plug on PHP 4. With PHP 4.4.8, PHP delivers patches for multiple flaws that can bypass restrictions. Here's what PHP had to say:

This release wraps up all the outstanding patches for the PHP 4.4 series, and is therefore the last normal PHP 4.4 release. If necessary, releases to address security issues could be made until 2008-08-08.

The update is described as moderately critical according to Secunia.

  • PHP5 should at least get a mention

PHP4 is being end-of-life'd and everyone should move to PHP5. It would be nice if this article at least *mentioned* this, instead of implying PHP itself is dead.

  • Of course no mention of PHP 5

That wouldn't have been in keeping with the M$ agenda now would it?

  • LOT of problems - PHP 5 is not backwards compatible

There are millions of scripts designed for PHP 4 which
are going to suffer as PHP 5 do not run them as it is.

Who will re-program those millions of sites ? New version
should not mean you can not run older scripts. Why cant
they run functions and commands which were in PHP 4 ? It
should have been designed to add new command and functions,
not by taking away what was running in PHP 4.
