Winamp 5.63 fixes four critical security vulnerabilities

Summary: Winamp version 5.63 fixes four critical security vulnerabilities.

Winamp users, it's time to upgrade to the latest version of the popular audio and video player.

As originally reported in Winamp's release announcement, version 5.63 fixes four critical security vulnerabilities. Successful exploitation of the vulnerabilities allows execution of arbitrary code. For the exploitation to take place, a user running an outdated version of Winamp, would have to open a specially crafted . AVI video file.

More details about the vulnerability can be found in this Secunia advisory.

  • Winamp?

Has anyone used that since 1999?

    • Sure

Yes, still the best on market. But not really for fruit formats (those weird apples' codecs).

    • Winamp - thats that

Well try using it for a start. I have been using it since 2001 and it effortlessly runs through my playlist of >25k songs while the overbloated and locked-in Itunes or windows media player crashes like a drunken sailor. Plus its free and it has got one of the best community around it(any plugins you can dream of)

As a radio portal/player. That is about it.

Someone hasn't been keeping themselves up to date, Winamp is still by far, the best configurable media player on the web.. Many enthusiasts and audiophiles use it because of the vast range of plug-ins and extras that it offers relatively bug free! Oh yeah, it's free too. :)
