More interesting news out of Big Blue. IBM has just introduced a new version of its 35-year-old Customer Information Control System (CICS) transaction server to support Web services. The CICS (pronounced "kicks") system has traditionally enabled companies to collectively process billions of transactions per day, particularly for credit card applications. Ideas International analyst Pierre Fricke is quoted in internetnews.compointing out that the move will allow mainframes to process Web services in powerful new ways: "Larger enterprises that have been running CICS for a long time really want to integrate CICS with their modern SOA business processes, and they don't want to have to do hand-coding to do it. This announcement really opens up CICS to a whole new vista for users."
