A group calling itself the Integration Consortium predicts that service-oriented architecture development will be the "in" thing for 2005. However, vendors will be duking it out over Enterprise Service Buses. There's certainly a lot of hype springing up around ESBs, especially since vendors are trying to convince the market that an ESB is more than just a messaging bus, it's also the middleware that plays a role in the SOA and legacy systems mix. It seems that every vendor is bringing out its own ESB. Despite all the hot air we get about interoperability, it doesn't look we'll get it any time soon.
