PlaySpan, a provider of monetization solutions for digital goods, social networks, online games, and videos, rolled out an online service it calls “Monetization as a Service,” a seven-layer approach to providing a monetization platform: something it calls “the MaaS stack.”
The idea behind MaaS is to provide payment-as-a-service from the cloud for online games and other content. PlaySpan says MaaS combines a global payment gateway with more than 85 payment options with micropayment, subscription, and e-commerce capabilities. PlaySpan says it also incorporates an analytics dashboard and fraud management tools into its offering.
PlaySpan points out that companies have traditionally built their payment and billing operations through a hodgepodge mix of in-house software development, third-party payment processor integrations, and various third-party software products for subscription, fraud management, and e-commerce systems.
The offering is targeted at online game providers, but there could be applications for any and all online service providers looking to sharpen their revenue models. And that’s playing the game right.
