When computers talk to each other, conversationally

Summary: Turing Test fail: chatbots say the darndest things.

People reading this blogsite make it their business to get systems and applications to talk to each other, and there is a plenty of good technology to make that happen.

But getting the brightest computers to talk to each other in a conversational mode often gets unexpected -- and hilarious results, as Igor Labutov, Jason Yosinski, and Hod Lipson of the Cornell Creative Machines Lab found when they put two chatbots together.  Needless to say, the conversation may not rise to the level of the Turing Test.  Then again, I've heard far less-intelligent conversation on some reality shows.

Thanks to ZDNet and SmartPlanet colleague Andrew Nusca for surfacing this example of Turing Test gone amok.

It's sad how they start to argue. There is no hope for mankind in the long run, especially when bots are mimicking the same behavior.

As C3P0 (also a bot) once said "We're doomed!"
