Yahoo-owned social bookmarking site, Del.icio.us, has released a widget called the 'tagometer', which adds new functionality to the now standard 'add to del.icio.us' badge that can be found on many blogs and other online publications. In addition to the bookmarking functionality, the javascript-based widget will display an up-to-date count of how many other people have already bookmarked the page, as well as listing the top tags that users have assigned.

Without delving into the code, two cut 'n' paste versions of the widget are currently available. One designed to be displayed at the bottom of an article or post, and the other more suited to a blog's side-bar.

The only drawback to the 'tagometer' is that out of the box it grabs the URL and title automatically from the page that the widget resides on - so it isn't really suited to being displayed on a page with several posts (such as a blog's home page), but is designed to be embedded into the 'permalink' page of each post only. Although, Yahoo have said that they'll be publishing a 'tips and tricks' page for the 'tagometer' which will offer a simple workaround to solve the problem.
