Altiris Software Virtualization Solution
While at the Symantec/Altiris event a week or so ago, I had a chance to speak with Scott Jones about Altiris' Software Virtualization Solution (SVS). At the time, I had to agree to an embargo so that the company could announce a new version of several software products. The products have been launched and I'm going to comment on Software Virtualization Solution.
First of all, Scott and I had a fascinating discussion about the history of virtualization, what are the important areas of virtualization and what the likely future was for each layer of technology. SVS seems to fall into both the acess and application virtualization segments of the Kusnetzky Group model of virtualization: SVS is a bit different from many other application virtualization products, such as LANDesk or Thinstall, is the attempt to allow encapsulated applications to integrate with other applications on a system while still offering a certain level of isolation.
