Amazon makes a gift card reappear

Amazon makes a gift card reappear

Summary: Amazon's magicians waved a magic keyboard and my gift card was reinstated. They truly are amazing.

TOPICS: Amazon
Yesterday I published a tale of woe, I was given a small gift card and attempted to use it on . I selected several items, entered the gift card code and attempted to check out. Something happened that was different from other times I've ordered from Amazon, the system asked me for a credit card and shipping address. Since I often order from Amazon, this seemed very strange. It appears that I had logged into my author account rather than the account I use for personal orders. Even though I immediately canceled the order, the gift card was already consumed and I couldn't use it to make a purchase using my personal account.

Late yesterday evening, I received a call and an Email message from Elizabeth King of Amazon's "Executive Customer Relations Team." Elizabeth apologized and pointed out that bringing the gift card back was a simple trick and the customer service representative should have known how to do it. She went on to tell me that the magic trick had been done and that the gift card should work as expected now.

I appreciate Amazon's quick action, but do wonder about the design of their system. Why is it possible to apply a card, but not remove that application if there is an error? I guess that they don't often deal with fumble fingered analysts.

    Stop pulling your punches, just because in the end they did someone who has a very visible public blog right doesnt mean the situation is right. They should have told you how they will prevent this from happening.

    Question: Was the amount just credited to your account, or did it just disappear? More likely it's that they're not used to people with multiple accounts.

      @Aerowind This, 100%

      Your money was never "gone", it was just applied to your other account.

      What a waste of a blog post in the initial complaint, and even more of a waste of space in the update. You never "lost" your was always there, ready to use.
  • They have excellent customer service

    I had a similar experience with Amazon, and sent them my grievance. They remedied the issue in a rapid manner, and couldn't have been nicer.
