AutoVirt 3.5 - its all about data mobility

By | March 3, 2011, 2:22am PST

Summary: Virtual servers and virtual clients need applications and data to be as mobile and as agile as they are.

Autovirt’s Josh Klein, President and CEO, and Elissa Rehm, Product Marketing Manager, spent some time chatting with about the importance of data mobility and the release of the newest version of their product, AutoVirt 3.5.

Here’s what AutoVirt has to say about V3.5

AutoVirt™, Inc., the leading provider of file virtualization and data mobility solutions, today announced the general availability of AutoVirt software version 3.5 (v3.5) featuring new assessment functionality and ease-of-deployment enhancements that enable fast and 100% accurate file data migration planning and execution. While the benefit to end users is apparent – significant capital and operational savings (CapEx and OpEx) – service providers will find that the AutoVirt software enhancements enable professional services (PS) engagements to be scoped with complete confidence and delivered on time and within budget.

AutoVirt v3.5 Enhancements include:

  • Comprehensive Assessment Capability
    • Discover and classify all file data across heterogeneous file storage environments (file age, type, size, location, and owner)
    • Identify opportunities for data center optimization (i.e., tiering, consolidation, capacity balancing, archiving, etc…)
    • Identify migration obstacles (i.e., file access, ACL errors)
    • Transition from Assessment configuration to the Full Production, Data Mobility configuration in just minutes
  • Reduced Configuration Requirements
    • Minimum full-production configuration: two virtual machines (VMs). (For assessment configuration, only one VM is required)

Snapshtot analysis

Virtual environments, such as virtual servers and virtual clients, need applications and data to be as agile as they are. There are a number of suppliers, both large and small, focused on this need. I’ve often spoken with AutoVirt and think that their approach offers quite a bit of flexibility and also requires a minimum of set up and configuration issues.

The goal, of course, is allowing organizations to make best use of their physical storage systems and not have to over-provision storage to assure best operations of their virtual processing environment.  It also means that data can be moved around to increase levels of performance and reliability.

As with a couple of the other competitors, AutoVirt has developed a “global namespace” allowing access to applications and data without really knowing where it is stored or on what type of storage device. AutoVirt has taken this concept a bit farther and has added policy-based control of storage objects. This can certainly add greatly to data security.

If you’re interested in moving towards a virtual storage environment to complement your virtual processing environment, I think that you’d find their virtual product tour to be interesting.

Where does Idaho rank? We have been living in Montana for the past 5 years and I am not supri sexy shop to find it #3 on the "worst" list. Considering a sexshopmove to Idaho to escapthe high cost of living a low income in MT. There may not be a sales tax here but they get you if you own property!
