I’ve watched Sychron for quite a number of years. The company had some very interesting ideas about management and provisioning of complex systems. After a number of management and ownership changes, I stopped hearing from them and they dropped off of my radar screen. Well, they’re back.
Here’s what Sychron has to say about OnDemand Desktop V4.2
Sychron, Inc., has opened a beta program for the latest version of OnDemand Desktop™, a next generation desktop virtualization and automation solution designed to make enterprise desktop computing more agile, more secure, and more cost-effective to scale. Sychron OnDemand Desktop Version 4.2 includes advanced resource scheduling with intuitive calendar controls for automated provisioning based on workload, time of day, and day of week. New features also include simulation and modeling capabilities based on expected workload, service levels, and availability, as well as a wizard-driven installation process that further simplifies virtual desktop implementation for large-scale deployments.
Snapshot analysis
Sychron clearly has its work cut out for it if it hopes to gain traction in a increasingly crowed market that has some very well funded players. Although Sychron has some interesting ideas about managing and provisioning virtual desktops, it will be very hard for them to get anyone’s attention.
Competitors such as Citrix, Microsoft, MokaFive, Neocleus, VMware, Virtual Computer, Wanova and a constantly growing list of others have already positioned themselves and their technology. There is very little uncontested turf available now. So, Sychron, regardless of the strength of its technology, its go-to-market strategy, and its team, will have to work very hard to successfully re-enter the market.
Their technology looks interesting and I hope they get their share of the industry’s attention.
